39 CHAD International Learning Facilitators Trained to Support Education in Gwoza

In a significant step towards improving education in crisis-affected areas, CHAD International, in partnership with IRC, recently conducted a 7-day Accelerated Basic Education Program (ABEP) Learning Facilitators Training. The training, held in October 2024, aimed to equip educators with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality education to children in Gwoza.

The ABEP curriculum is designed to provide a flexible and accelerated learning experience for out-of-school children and youth. By equipping educators with the necessary skills to implement this curriculum effectively, CHAD International and IRC are empowering them to make a real difference in the lives of young learners.

Key Training Components:

  • Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR): This teaching method empowers learners by gradually transferring responsibility from the teacher to the student, fostering independent learning.

  • Formative Assessment: By regularly assessing students' progress, educators can tailor their instruction to meet individual needs, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

  • Through this training, CHAD International and IRC are building the capacity of educators to create inclusive and supportive learning environments, ultimately contributing to the development of a more educated and empowered generation in Gwoza.

The training equipped educators with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality education, tailored to the unique needs of children in crisis-affected areas. Participants delved into the ABEP curriculum, mastered the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) approach, and honed their skills in formative assessment.

A unique aspect of this ABEP program is the strong community ownership of the project. The community ensured that all learning facilitator positions were given to Gwoza residents who had the necessary qualifications. This local ownership fosters a sense of pride and responsibility, contributing to the program's success.

Why the ABEP Matters

"While the knowledge acquired is immeasurable, the training should extend beyond seven days as it requires us to go and replicate the same approach in classes." Her words highlight the transformative potential of the training and the dedication of the participants.
